CINNABON CINNAMON ROLL CAKE RECIPE

INGREDIENTS:

For the dough:
  • 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F/43°C)
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) instant dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt

For the filling:
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon

For the glaze:
  • 3 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Let stand for 5 minutes, until the yeast is foamy.
  2. Beat in the egg and melted butter. Stir in the flour and salt until a dough forms.
  3. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. While the dough is rising, make the filling. In a medium bowl, cream together the butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon until light and fluffy.
  6. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a 12x18 inch rectangle. Spread the filling evenly over the dough.
  7. Starting at one long end, roll the dough up tightly into a log. Cut the log into 12 equal pieces.
  8. Place the cinnamon rolls in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place for 30 minutes, or until doubled in size.
  9. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  10. Bake the cinnamon rolls for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  11. While the cinnamon rolls are baking, make the glaze. In a medium bowl, cream together the cream cheese and butter until light and fluffy. Beat in the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  12. Once the cinnamon rolls are baked, let them cool for a few minutes before frosting with the glaze.
  13. Serve immediately and enjoy!

TIPS:

  • For extra fluffy cinnamon rolls, use bread flour instead of all-purpose flour.
  • If you don't have a stand mixer, you can knead the dough by hand. Just be sure to knead it for at least 5 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  • To make sure the cinnamon rolls are cooked through, insert a toothpick into the center of one of the rolls. If the toothpick comes out clean, the rolls are done.
  • If you want to make your cinnamon rolls ahead of time, you can assemble them and then let them rise in the refrigerator overnight. Just be sure to take them out of the refrigerator 30 minutes before baking so they can come to room temperature.
Enjoy! 😋😋
