- 2 ripe avocados, halved, pitted, and peeled
- 1 lime, juiced
- 1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
- 1/4 cup finely diced red onion
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
- 1/2 jalapeño pepper, seeded and minced (optional)
Mash the avocados: In a medium bowl, mash the avocado flesh with a fork or potato masher until it reaches your desired consistency, whether chunky or smooth.
Add the flavorings: Add the lime juice, salt, red onion, cilantro, and jalapeño pepper (if using) to the mashed avocado. Stir gently to combine.
Taste and adjust: Taste the guacamole and adjust the seasonings to your liking, adding more salt, lime juice, or jalapeño pepper if desired.
Serve immediately: Serve the guacamole immediately with tortilla chips, tacos, burritos, or as a topping for your favorite dishes.
For a smoother guacamole, use a food processor or blender.
To prevent the guacamole from browning, place the avocado pit in the center of the guacamole and cover the bowl tightly with plastic wrap.
For a more flavorful guacamole, add a diced tomato or a pinch of cumin.
If you don't have a jalapeño pepper, you can substitute with a pinch of cayenne pepper or a few dashes of hot sauce.
